MyGuidewire College is enabling Post University to provide students with the
tools, skills and resources necessary to enter the world of work fully prepared
to succeed.
Our goal is to go beyond the traditional single class on career preparation or the last minute rush to seek guidance and help from our career service department to creating a unifying thread interwoven into curriculum and all of the experiences students have throughout their stay here at Post. Consequently, we created a "thin" curriculum of 1 and 2 credit courses concentrated on college and professional success that all students take from freshman year through senior graduation. MyGuidewire College partnered with us throughout the entire planning process supplying the content and technology required to support our personal and career development curricular needs.
We believe that the combination of formal course-work, interactive exercises
and tools provided by MyGuidewire College fortified with Post cooperative
education experiences will allow our students to graduate with the
self-awareness, global perspective, flexibility and knowledge they need to
succeed in whatever career path they choose to pursue.
Post is confident that MyGuidewire College will have an immediate impact on the
educational experiences of our students, as well as prepare students to succeed
in the real world. Our students will be well-positioned to enter their chosen
fields with a knowledge and personal self-confidence few undergraduates have
when they launch their careers.
The reaction to what we are doing from the business world has been very
positive and we see MyGuidewire College as the key to our being able to provide
the tools necessary for students to gain an understanding of themselves, what
personal attributes and skills they have or are developing that are
transferable to career success in the future. By partnering with MyGuidewire
College, Post believes we are empowering our students to become successful CEOs of
their own careers and lives.
From the early stages of developing the basic concepts of the thin curriculum,
through the processes of the University and faculty senate, and finally to the
implementation of our Career and Self-Awareness core the people at MyGuidewire
College have provided the services, tools, and advice we needed to make this
great curricular advancement happen.
Universities in the 21st century are being
called upon to do more than just provide a traditional academic education. With
the soaring costs of higher education we have an obligation to provide
resources to our students for the development of the holistic capabilities they
will need to succeed in the ever changing world of work.

| Aileen Axtmayer,
Villanova University 2006 |
As a college senior, I was faced with thinking about my life outside of the
university walls. I not only needed to learn more about who I was, but who I
wanted to become.
Using MyGuidewire College, I generated a personal profile by completing various
personality and occupational interest assessments online. I was thoroughly
impressed with how in-depth, varied and perceptive the reports were. They
helped me to confirm my previous opinions about myself while also opening my
eyes to strengths and weaknesses I was not fully aware of. The total experience
helped me to develop more as a person and prepare me for life after college in
many ways.
One of the most prominent ways MyGuidewire College has benefited me is in the
interviewing process. An interviewer can always tell whether or not a person is
truly speaking what they know and feel, and if much thought was given to career
direction. When asked about my strengths and weaknesses, worker traits or
learning styles, I can now confidently elaborate on each of my responses.
Thanks to the work I did with MyGuidewire College, I believe that my new found
knowledge about myself shows through to others quite strongly.
MyGuidewire College was and still is a very beneficial instrument for me in my life -
it is a valuable tool that can benefit students far beyond what they might
expect. I sincerely believe MyGuidewire College would be a great addition to every
college's curriculum and career services.

| Neil Heyse, Adjunct
Professor at Villanova University, Executive Director of Guidewire

Although it may seem a bit biased, I
personally taught a three credit hour Career and Life Development Course over
four years as an adjunct at Villanova University. During two semesters, I
integrated MyGuidewire College deeply into the course syllabus and grading
Some students enrolled as an elective either because they were interested in
the topics or because it fulfilled an elective requirement. Others expressed
reservations about their prior major selection and career outlook as well as
the realities they would be facing upon graduation. Most were seniors, some
juniors and a few sophomores.
Recognizing a healthy amount of student skepticism regarding the real potential
benefits of a course like this, MyGuidewire College assignments were blended
with textbook readings, spirited class discussions, sub group projects, student
presentations, quizzes and a final - "connect the dots" term paper. There was
also a requirement to conduct and report on an informational interview with an
individual actively working in a career area of the student's interest.
Acknowledging that all students do not share an equal amount of dedication or
are equally committed to attending class regularly, what I found most
gratifying was the way almost every student enthusiastically embraced the
coursework. Suddenly, for the first time during their formal education,
students were immersed in an organized way of learning about themselves while
being stimulated to objectively and subjectively think through who they are,
where they want to go and how they are going to get there. As a consequence,
some changed their career direction completely, others became reenergized in
discovering that their prior major/career decisions were well suited to their
values, interests, capabilities and ambitions. A resounding sense of new found
confidence was omnipresent and palpable.
One of the most important things I learned in teaching this course is that
there is a universal hunger among students to discover, affirm and celebrate
their human uniqueness. Another is that young people yearn to better understand
alternate career opportunities in the outside world and to logically choose the
best career - life pathways to follow after graduation.
Having no reflection on me as an instructor, it was particularly encouraging to
experience many students' enthusiasm to the point that they strongly recommend
courses like this be made mandatory for all college students. On this note, I
think they are onto something really big.
